Custom foot orthotics are a cornerstone of the treatment plan for a number of foot and ankle problems. They are designed from a mold of the feet. to fit the feet exactly for comfort and mechanical control. They are made in a specialty lab that only works with foot and ankle devices. They use a prescription from me to design the devices with the corrections and accommodations for each patient.
The orthotic prescription is based on the findings during the clinical evaluation of the patient, taking into account specific activities and shoe preferences.
The main function of foot orthotics is to align the foot into a healthy position and guide the amount of motion of the foot joints to the normal range.
The result is decreased stress on the soft tissue and joint structures leading to relief of symptoms.
Their effects can extend to areas above the foot helping with ankle, knee, hip and lower back symptoms as well.
