However, there is a brand you may want to be careful of. Hoka has become a popular running shoe brand. They look clunky and oversized, and are unique because they have a wider base than other running shoes. Running shoes with oversized midsoles are designed to increase performance and reduce injury.

Unfortunately this wider base has led to falls during non-running activities. The company itself states “using this product for anything other than running may impair balance and dexterity.” Although oversized shoes have their benefits for running, caution is needed when considering them for everyday use.

According to an article in the Wall Street Journal, some people have toppled over while going down stairs or just walking around the store trying them on. It’s important to be extremely careful wearing Hoka shoes on stairs and while driving.
